Windows: we clean!
Written by Alex January 13, 2009 - 10:04 am
You're running out of disk space because of your beloved OS, maybe Vista? Vista accumulate piles of temporary files, cached files and assorted junk in daily operations, especially browsing on the Internet. The free disk space is affected by this and continues to fall (have you ever wondered why are more and more capacious disks?) Unless you shall. Moreover, the existence of these files will degrade performance and increase the fragmentation of data on disk - and virtually no one I know ever does defragmentation with Defrag (right click on a disk drive and Properties, Tools, Defragment files on the volume).

What is WinSxS for Win 2008 and Vista?
Written by Alex September 30, 2008 - 9:24 pm
Many users of Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 are wondering "why the WinSxS folder is so big and is growing?"
The answer depends on componentization, a feature introduced with Windows Vista and later versions.
On Vista we have moved from an operating system whose elements were described by the INF file to the components. This passage recalls the conversation which took place between. INI file and registry.
A component in Windows consists of one or more binaries, a catalog file, and an XML file that says everything about how the files must be installed, the Registry keys that were interested in services to security permissions the files should have. The components are grouped into logical units, and these units are used to construct the various editions of Windows.
