Outlook and the command line
Written by Alex March 30, 2011 - 8:10 am
Outlook / switch
Occasionally, we need to use the full path to Outlook, or the command must have the form:
"C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft Office \ Office11 \ Outlook.exe" / switch
Notes:
Before using a command line, you must close Outlook and make sure it is closed in Task Manager.
Paths that include spaces must be enclosed in quotes and may require careful case-sensitive. You need the full paths to create desktop shortcuts.
Switch
/ A
Create an object with the specified file as an attachment.
Use:
Outlook / a "C: \ Documents \ etichette.doc"
If you do not specify an object type, default is IPM.Note. This switch can not be used with message classes that are not based on Outlook.
Opens the VBA program specified in otmfilename, rather than% appdata% \ Microsoft \ Outlook \ VbaProject.OTM. Use this switch to run macros that are not in the default file VBAProject.
/ Autorun macroname
Launch Outlook and immediately runs the macro specified in macroname.

Can not open the Outlook (2003 or 2007)
Written by Alex July 16, 2010 - 7:47 am
This error prevents the start of Outlook, the behavior is as follows: when you start Outlook (2000, 2002, 2003, 2007) appears the message:
Can not start Microsoft Outlook. Can not open the Outlook window.
If you confirm the message closes the application without further information.
The most common cause is the corruption of the configuration file (nomeprofilo.xml in your user profile) that is used to manage the navigation pane (the left sidebar in Outlook). The following intervention does is delete and regenerate this file, restoring the default configuration. The action also removes any shortcuts and favorite folders that were previously configured, but at least allows them to lift their profile.
To do this just start Outlook with the / resetnavpane.
Basically just use the command "Start -> Run ..." and then type:
outlook / resetnavpane For a discussion on the use of parameters that you start Outlook, you can also see a future article on this topic.
If the error messages from one of the following figure:
- You did not create any profile
- Unable to load the list of profiles
you must configure Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2003 to prompt the user to specify an email profile on startup; follow these steps:
- Click the Start button and choose Control Panel.
- Click Switch to Classic View, then double-click Mail.
- In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.

Uninstall an add-on to Outlook
Written by Alex May 24, 2010 - 11:44 am
Sometimes you install Outlook add-on for additional functions, including elimination of double or email data export, and then you can not leave it alone, even using the Outlook features that should handle the additional components. These functions are different from each other for the various editions of Outlook, so it's not even easy to navigate.
However ...
If after following the procedures to remove the Outlook add-yet it turns out, the solution may even be easier than expected and simply involve deleting the cache of Outlook add-ins.
- make sure that Outlook is not running
- press Win-R to open the Run window and write "localappdata%% \ Microsoft \ Outlook" or if you use Windows 2000 or XP, type "% appdata% \ Microsoft \ Outlook" and press enter
- will open a Windows Explorer window, where you will find the file "extend.dat"
- highlight it and press Delete
If this does cause problems should dredge up the extend.dat files from the trash and look for other solutions.

Problems of versions of Outlook and Office
Written by Alex April 15, 2009 - 7:21 am
Often new PCs ship with trial versions of Office of the validity of 60 days pre-installed and are usually the most recent (eg. The 2007), while the user might have purchased a previous version (eg. To 2003) . In these circumstances the question arises as to remove the trial version of Office and reinstall the old, sometimes pear ² such a downgrade is more treacherous than expected.
To remove painlessly and effectively Office 2007 can use Remove Office 2007, a free tool that does everything at the touch of a button.
Pear ² ² CIA did not say is that the problem is solved: it happens in such circumstances then reinstalling Outlook leading to an unusable result, with the appearance of the error "Can not start Microsoft Office Outlook."
The cause of this error could be a MSMAPI32.DLL incompatible "left" in Legacy removed from the Office.
In this case the file rename MSMAPI32.DLL.OLD MSMAPI32.DLL which is found in:
C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ System \ Msmapi \ 1040
Note that the file (Msmapi32.dll) to rename is different from the file (Mapi32.dll) sometimes mentioned in the error message.
Then, start Outlook 2003, which will restore the missing DLL.
If the problem is solved, remember to delete the renamed DLL in C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ System \ Msmapi \ 1040.
